The Tikamoon eco-rating
The Tikamoon eco-rating: The tool that helps you compare and choose your furniture
To make sustainable shopping easier, we've developped an eco-rating system based on the six eco-criteria below. This system translates into a simple scale, rated from of one to four leaves. This grid has been designed to help you choose your products with all the facts before you.
Environmental criteria | Benefits | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1. Solid wood | Living material, high recyclability, energy savings | ||||
2. No composite materials | No MDF, no chipboard | ||||
3. Resource savings | Design that minimize emissions and maximize the reuse of offcuts | ||||
4. Traditional assembly | Furniture assembled by hand by our cabinet makers, ensuring product strength and longevity | ||||
5. High repairability | Longevity due to the ease of restoration of solid wood and the availability of spare parts | ||||
6. Certified Wood | Responsible and sustainable management of forests: biodiversity, social and economic benefit | ||||
7. 1% for the planet® | 1% of the revenue generated from this product is donated to an organization for the preservation and restoration of the forest. |
The Tikamoon eco-criteria
We have defined six eco-criteria for measuring the sustainability performance of our products. These criteria serve as a benchmark for continually improving both our furniture and our company’s positive environmental impact.
1. Solid wood
Our furniture is crafted from solid wood, preserving the tree's nobility with minimal processing, which helps limit energy usage. We aim to preserve the beauty of this living material which continues to evolve throughout its lifetime. Solid wood responds and adapts to changes in humidity and temperature in the room where it is located. Additionally, solid wood is easily repaired and therefore lasts for years, not to mention its great recyclability, allowing it to give life to new objects.
2. No composite materials
Composite materials, such as MDF and chipboard, are made up partly of wood, but also of a very large quantity of glue and solvent that bind the wood particles together. These materials have a higher environmental impact compared to solid wood because they require more chemicals and energy to produce. Unlike solid wood, these panels are difficult to repair.
3. Resource savings
When designing and selecting our furniture, we pay special attention to the quantities of materials used. One of the main environmental impacts of furniture comes from the quantity of material used to make it. That's why we carefully evaluate our designs and remove unnecessary parts, like certain back panels. We also repurpose offcuts — materials that would otherwise be discarded — to create interior dividers and drawer panels.
4. Traditional assembly
Our furniture is assembled without hardware, using woodworking techniques only. These time-tested methods ensure maximum strength and durability, allowing the wood to be flexible and adapt to changes, while remaining equally robust. By avoiding external parts, the furniture is easier to reuse and recycle.
5. High repairability
The longevity of a piece of furniture is directly tied to its repairability, one of the great advantages of using solid wood. In most cases, sanding and applying a protective coat will leave the furniture looking as good as new. We also offer a two-year warranty and guarantee access to necessary spare parts during this period.
6. Certified Wood
This certification ensures that the wood comes from forests
managed sustainably, protecting biodiversity and supporting local communities both socially and economically. The forestry practices are carefully monitored to protect wildlife diversity and ensure long-term forest conservation.
7. 1% for the planet®
Through our range of FSC®-certified products, we are a member of 1% for the Planet®. Consequently, starting from 2024, we will donate 1% of the annual turnover of this range to associations related to the protection and restoration of forest ecosystems.
